If you’ve tried diving through a Discover Scuba Diving experience or
resort course, the skills you learned may be credited towards a portion of
the full PADI Open Water Diver course certification.
Prerequisites
To enroll in the PADI Open Diver
course or Junior Open Water Diver course, you must be 10 years or older.

The fun part about this course is . . . well, just about all of it because learning to dive is incredible. You breathe underwater for the first time (something you’ll never forget) and learn what you need to know to become a certified diver. During the course, you’ll make at least five pool dives and four dives at local dive sites under the supervision of your PADI Instructor.

In the PADI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use basic scuba gear including a dive computer, and standard accessories. The equipment you wear varies somewhat, depending upon whether you’re diving in tropical, temperate or cold water
Check with D.S.G. SCUBA @ 901-751-9988 about the gear you’ll use during this course.
The Learning Materials You Need
PADI offers a variety of home-study materials for the Open Water Diver course, a book and DVD package or a multimedia DVD-ROM.
PADI’s
Open Water Diver materials cover what you need to know about basic scuba
diving skills, terminology and safety procedures. For each concept you’ll
read a description and watch a video demonstration. Then you’ll jump in the
pool (or pool-like environment) to practice these skills with your
instructor. Later, as a certified diver, use the course materials as a
reference guide for future diving adventures and to review what you
learned.

The PADI Open Water Diver course is, by far, the world's most popular scuba certification course. Millions of people have started diving as certified PADI Open Water Divers. Learning to scuba dive requires both knowledge development (facts, principles, concepts) and motor procedures (skills, techniques, methods). The PADI Open Water Diver Course provides the knowledge development and water skills you need to start enjoying this wonderful sport. Your PADI Instructors at D.S.G. SCUBA are looking forward to hearing from you...
The PADI Open Water Course is a three phase course. 1. Knowledge development (class room), 2. Confined water (pool), 3. The final phase, four open water dives over a two day fun filled weekend.
Learn the lingo. During the first phase of your PADI Open Water Diver scuba
certification, you develop an understanding of the basic principles of scuba
diving. You learn things like how pressure affects your body, how to choose the
best scuba gear and what to consider when planning dives.
You briefly review what you have studied in the five knowledge sections with
your instructor and take a short quiz to be sure you’re getting it. At the end
of the course, you’ll take a longer quiz that makes sure you have all the key
concepts and ideas down. You and your instructor will review anything that you
don’t quite get until it’s clear
This is what it’s all about – diving. You develop basic scuba skills by scuba diving in a pool or body of water with pool-like conditions. Here you’ll learn everything from setting up your scuba gear to how to easily get water out of your scuba mask without surfacing. You’ll also practice some emergency skills, like sharing air or replacing your scuba mask. Plus, you may play some games, make new friends and have a great time.
There are five confined water dives, with each building upon the previous. Over the course of these five dives, you attain the skills you need to dive in open water.
After your confined water dives, you and the new friends you’ve made continue learning during four open water dives with your PADI Instructor at a dive site. This is where you fully experience the underwater adventure – at the beginner level, of course. You may make these dives near your home or at a more exotic destination while on a scuba vacations
How long does it take to get certified?
It’s possible to complete your confined and open water dives in as few as
three or four days by home study options offered by D.S.G. SCUBA
The PADI Open Water Diver course is incredibly flexible and performance based,
which means that our PADI Dive Training Center
can offer a wide variety of schedules, paced according to how fast you
progress.
Your instructor’s interest is in your learning to scuba dive, not in how long you sit in a class. So, training is based upon demonstrating that you know what you need to know and can do what you need to do. This means that you progress at your own pace – faster or slower depending upon the time you need to become a confident scuba diver who dives regularly.
