Motorized swimming duck decoys are defined as electrically propelled decoy devices that are used to mimic real ducks swimming on the water. Their drive systems can either be propeller, water jet, spinning paddles, line driven, or even magnets.

The Spinning Wing Decoy (SWD)is defined as any electric,mechanical, manual, or wind driven rotating-blade device that simulates wing movement. They are used to attract both ducks and geese and work for both short and long distances. Since their introduction in the late 1990s, duck hunters who use them have enjoyed better hunting and bigger bags.

The flapping wing decoy is defined as any electric, mechanical, manual, or wind driven device that simulates the up and down, “flapping”, wing movement. Flapping wing decoys closely mimic a ducks actions when landing or flapping their wings while sitting on the water. These are very effective when using large spreads such as the ones used for pit or permanent blind hunting.
